When was the institute established?

Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP) has been established as an autonomous institution under Societies Act, 1960.

The institute admitted its first batch on July 29th 2008.

Is it a government institute?

Although in its initial years, the Institute is shaped by the vision and active collaboration of Government of Bihar.

It is not a government undertaking.

The Institute is run by an autonomous society.

What is the admission process? What are the components?

Applicants selected on the basis of CAT scores will be called for Group Discussion and Personal Interview.

Criteria for final admission would include following components (not in order of priority) :

  1. CAT score
  2. Performance in Group Discussion and Personal Interview
  3. Prior academic performance
  4. Work experience (if any)
  5. Extracurricular activities

What Qualification is essential to get admissions in CIMP?

Candidate should be a graduate (any stream) with at least 55% marks, in case of general category, and 50% marks, in case of SC/ST.

Candidates in their final year of graduation can also apply, provided they submit their 'results awaited' certificate, as mentioned in admission brochure.

What exam is to be taken for admission in CIMP?

Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).

Around when will the list of shortlisted candidates be out? When would the admission list be out?

All the selected/shortlisted candidates for GD/PI will be informed individually through Registered/Speed Post by second week of February.

The list of shortlisted candidates will be uploaded on the website of the institute in the last week of March.

What are the qualifications and the past experiences of faculty at CIMP?

Institute has a pool of faculty drawn from experts in the field of functional areas, and professors from leading national institutes like IIMs, IITs and international institutes of repute like TUAT (Japan).

What specializations are offered at CIMP?

CIMP doesn't offer any particular specialization.

CIMP aims at training future leaders and hence offers a general management degree with rigorous training in all the disciplines.

In the second year, however, students are free to choose from functional areas according to their career interests.

What kind of term system is followed at CIMP?

Courses in CIMP have a trimester system.

In a 2-year programme, 6 trimesters are scheduled with a 2-month summer internship at the end of the first three trimesters.

What similarities does the institute have with the IIMs?

The institute follows to the extent possible, all practices, systems and processes of the IIMs.

CIMP’s course curriculum and pedagogy are shaped on the lines of IIMs.

The courses are developed with committees consisting of reputed faculty from IIMs, and teaching materials used in the courses are sourced from the best in the world viz; Harvard Business School, IIMA and other leading national and international B-schools.

The governance structure and model of CIMP is based on those of IIMs.

Faculty recruitment process too is similar to the one followed by IIMs and other leading national institutes.

Faculty from IIMs are involved in faculty selection procedure, and the institute also invites visiting professors from these leading institutes.

What are my career opportunities after studying at CIMP?

The institute proposes to get the best placement possible for its graduates.

The objective behind modelling institute’s curriculum and pedagogy on lines of leading management institutes is to produce quality graduates who would be valued greatly by the industry.

All students of the first batch of PGDM students of 2008-10 have been placed successfully in different sectors. 20% of students have also got lateral placements.
